“The eminent Star Trek reference book author .” —Star Trek Expanded Universe Wiki
Gene Roddenberry was both a very human man and a cosmic visionary. Hardheaded, single-minded, a good friend and a bitter enemy, Roddenberry was a creative genius who pursued his dreams singlemindedly. A man who envisioned a future where humankind had outgrown war, he often fought unnecessary battles in his own life. Though his every project was a failure (Star Trek was cancelled after only three seasons), he created the single biggest phenomena in media history and gave the 20th century one of its most universal myths.
Roddenberry is the story of an almost larger-than-life man whose flaws were as outsized as his virtues. Even actors he made world-famous stars and millionaires spoke of him with mixed feelings. Final redemption came with the rebirth of Star Trek on the movie screen and launching of a new television hit, Star Trek The Next Generation.
In Roddenberry The Man Who Created Star Trek, journalist James Van Hise reveals Roddenberry's career as never before, in both its triumphs and failures. More importantly, it tells the story of the man behind the public figure.

RODDENBERRY The Man Who Created Star Trek eBook James Van Hise
If you don't know very much about Roddenberry or Star Trek, then you should enjoy this. If you do, the ommissions from his life and the history of the series are glaring. It's a nice, sanitized version of his life--perfect for those that think of him as the perfect visionary of a perfect Earth where the human inhabitants are the ultimate expression of life in the universe. I would recommend the Joel Engel biography as there is much more info about Roddenberry. Unfortunately, Kindle doesn't offer it.Product details

RODDENBERRY The Man Who Created Star Trek eBook James Van Hise Reviews
This book provides good inside information about the life and career of Eugene Roddenberry. It is very interesting to learn about how TV shows get created and produced and released! There is a lot of studio politics involved and micro-management from various studio execs. Lots of conflict due to egos and power struggles!
Reading this book compliments the other books written by other TOS stars such as Shatner, Nimoy, Koenig, Nichols, and others. They all tell slightly different stories from their unique personal perspectives. For all of them, it was a great Thrill Ride to have been associated with the Star Trek universe!
